I'd like to see Buffon as captain... He has good qualities as a player and is someone who is admired and respected in the team. Pirlo would also be a strong leader for the team.
allezfran... you got a foul mouth!!! Sh*t like that is unwanted!

Sincerely Juventina, I don't think that Totti, Heinze, Toni, Pirlo or Nesta could replace Cannavaro though they are good players. Cannavaro is unreplaceable. All the players I mentioned are excellent and they would do fine as captain,it's just that no one can take the place of Cannavaro. He's so great and he's got so many things that make him the best captain of all times. Del Piero is already captain and he's doing very fine with all the players in Juve. Cannavaro is unique and exceptional. The person who would be chose to replace should be exactly like him: so nice, kind and a very good and great person, he should have a golden heart like Fabio and he should be accepted by everyone in Italy and all around the World. A captain's role is very important on a playgroung so he should be an experienced captain and a good player as well.

First of all, Cannavaro will not be replaced unless he retires or it is not called by the coach.
I would like to remind everyone that in Italy, the captain of the National Team is usually the player with highest caps in international games. And the second highest caps is usually the vice-captain.
At this time, in case Cannavaro could not play, Buffon is the one who will become the captain... then there is Nesta, then Zambrotta and after (eventually) Totti or Gattuso. All of that just because Del Piero is basically out of the Team, otherwise he will be the one to take Cannavaro's place.
Probably other countries use different methods...

I think it would be great if Francesco Totti were captain (he's my favourite player, anyway), but I still remember how he was a little reluctant to continue playing with the national team after winning the World Cup. Online articles described how he wasn't sure if he should continue, or just focus his time on AS Roma and his family. Therefore, I'm not sure if he would like to devote so much of his time to be captain of both AS Roma AND the national team.
Andrea Pirlo would be worthy of being captain, since he did clearly prove himself to be valuable to the team during this World Cup.
But really, no one is ever replaceable, and Cannavaro will always be remembered as a great captain in his own right. =)

i think del piero, but he would probably leave the same time cannavaro leaves cause they are AROUND the same age. btw, is del piero gone for good from the national team?? someone said he was!? i hate that!! i love him!! :] haha. but it would either be totti, because he has a history of captaining for AS ROMA, and he does a pretty good job at it. :) or yeah, pirlo, cause i can imagine him as captain. i disagree with whoever said toni because i dont think he can take the pressure of being a captain. but dont get me wrong, i LOVE him. :) nesta would make a good captain, i think. plus, he plays the same position as cannavaro. :]
i dont know why, but for some reason they give the captain position to the older players. :] not old, but like... oldER. :] haha

Gosh what a huge job and responsibility. I also initially thought Totti, but injuries may see him unavailable and who knows if he will actually be there for 2010. I think they need someone who is committed and capable of seeing out the next four years. I don't think Pirlo would do a bad job but who knows really. Hard decision to make.

Personally I think that Andrea Pirlo or Francesco Totti deserve to be the next Captain..both of them seem more mature and ready to take the responsible..I wish Totti would be the Captain..

Oh,i don't want to think about it,you understand why!
It can be he's brother Paolo, cuz he is very talent and progressive soccer player,or maybe Fabio Grosso, cuz he's authority in his team, but the best captain was is and will be Fabio Cannavaro!;)

=( I really can't imagine any other captain then Cannavaro nor do I want to. I really think he did a fantastic job as both a captain and defender. Can't ask for more then that. But when it comes time for him to leave, I really don't know who they will choose to be captain. For some reason I can't picture any other Azzurri to take that place.
