theres a spray especially made for Wasps and Hornets. its made by BONIDE and also by GREENLIGHT. Both of these chemicals work great, they have a reach of 20 feet and they kill on contact. i have been using it for years and it works great for me!! you can find it a any garden center. using Sevin Dust like some ppl say, will not do the trick because it has to be taken in by the insect not just by dusting them.

i wish i knew what part of the country you live in that would make this a little easier to answer. but that being said, try this at night,
get some sevin dust at the local big box hardware store, and apply it to the nest (you can get a duster there too). it may take a few days for this to work, but by this time the season for the bees will be done anyway. if you want to wait, till the cold kills them(the active bees) remove the nest from the porch. and next year pay a little more attention before a nest gets this big.it is easier to rid these critters before they grow in force.

Spray the nest with hornet spray until they are gone. Knock it down with a long stick and knock it into the yard to spray it down again. You can put gas on it to burn it or put it in a plastic bag and tie it tight.

They make a spray hornet killer that shoots from far away (like 15 feet). Shoot, then run! My grandfather would hold a burning newspaper up to the nests and burn their wings off. Then, he'd step on them as they fell. Try the spray - it works!
