The medicine in a cough drop (menthol) sooths the itchyness and soreness in the throat until it dissolves. It doesn't actually do anything for you

Cough drops contain the same medication as cough syrup, just in smaller doses. They are a cough suppressant. Just make sure you get cough drops, not throat drops.

cough drops normally have a menthol ingredient in them that somewhat numbs the back of the throat temporarily turning off the reflex or urge to cough.

They don't cure a cough or cold but the menthol in them will clear your head for a while and the other flavourings will sooth a sore throat for a time.

they're just sugar and menthol...both are soothing to the throat. Menthol gives the feeling of having clearer breathing.
