I like the original one better, and here's why.....
First off, the storyline. When I saw the newer version, I was reminded of Ron Howard's 'The Grinch' starring Jim Carey. A classic film was taken and it's main focus was to explain the psychology of the lead character. When you see the original Wonka movie, it gets right to the point of the plot; a poor boy, with a kind heart who just wants a break in life, who is finally given a chance at having all of his wildest dreams come true. And the message that good things do happen to those who wait. I just felt that the newer version's plot was based on getting inside Wonka's mental state of mind, and that took away from the true meaning of the story.
Secondly, the actual setting itself. Nowadays, movies can portray almost anything the imagination can think of, with computers and so on. Now the candy set, actually being made of candy, I have to admit was pretty awesome. But apart from that, I found that the original was so much more enticing. (For one thing, it's nice seeing more than one actor play the roles of the Oompla Loompas! LOL!). I think because of it's simplicity it's a masterpiece. They didn't have a real life chocolate waterfall, they used beach balls and other blow up candy for the set and you could tell that was astro turf on the floor. But that's what makes it memorable, the fact that it was enough to convince you it was a "World of Pure Imagination".
The last part of my reason has to do with the two lead actors who played Willy Wonka. Now don't get me wrong, Johnny Depp is an incredibly talented actor. But he was far too cynical and almost cold in this role. I found Gene Wilder was very playful and yet still cunning at playing stupid when the parents freaked out. It seemed he was more comfortable with the children than the Depp Wonka, and he was more natural when it came to those quick, quirky one liners. It was almost as though Depp was trying too hard to mimic Wilder, and it showed.

The original, of course! The songs are so much better and the guy who plays Willy Wonka in the first one is not as creepy as Johnny Depp acts in the second one. Plus the plot makes a lot more sense in the first one than in the second one

The orginal was much better, no question! It was unique. Gene Wilder was wonderfully manic yet could be subdued. Sorry but I thought Johnny Depp came across as a Caucasian Michael Jackson in the remake. Scarey creepy.

The original is a much better version by far. Didn't like the Oompa Loompas in the new version, or Johnny Depp. Gene Wilder played the character so much better. One of my favourite movies of all.

first both the movies were hillarous in their own ways, but i would say the new one because it has johnny depp's personality and own sense of what the movie should of been and the director really let him go out with it. But story wise the first one was a little more far fetched in terms of how close it was to the Rall doll book but the new one was fairly close. This may be because i havn't read the book in so long but i do like and think the better movie all around in closness to movie and casting and directing and plot was the new one.

I like the oringial better.
As with many other remakes of classics. You will find that the "younger" generation will like the newer ones than the "older" generation. By older I mean 29+ (cause that is what I am)
I like more of the original ones better than the newer ones.

I think it was Charlie and The Chocolate Factory because you actually get to see what happened at the end.
