I applaud most of the cuts, but the mountain pine beetle pest control fund shouldn't have been cut. This will speed up the devastation of BC forests and it could lead to the spread of those pests across Canada and into the US. This would mean billions of lost revenue and jobs from the forestry industry for both countries. It's a very short sighted decision. If Harper can increase funding to that and to Health Care, I would be happier.

I am really really sad with the current state of affairs in Canada. Stephen Harper really does scare me. He knows he has complete power b/c the Liberals will do nothing to stop him b/c they cannot have a election. His cuts are horrible and very American like. Between the status of women (which does do some awesome work), the museums, the court challenge program and law commission of canada- he is taking the voices away from millions of Canadians that would not have a voice without these programs. He is sooo far up bush's butt that hopefully he will get lost soon before he destroys this amazing country.

Thank God for that.
Elizabeth, dear Elizabeth, not enough for health care, not enough for education?? You can pour all the money you want into these programs, it will not solve the problem. By the way, education is a provincial responsibility. I don't know how well off you are, but I think as Canadians we pay darn well ENOUGH in taxes. Everything is too top heavy in administration, and we have too many programs that do diddly squat. Hopefully we get a majority next time.

I'm no Canadien, but don't they have a large government anyways? You guys got one of the best economies in the world and tax cuts end up raising the GDP, and quality of life, in the end. The USA is seeing the highest tax revenues its ever seen because (not in spite) of Bush's tax cuts. It's one of the only things the guy has done right.
For another example, I say look across the pond at Britain. Their economic system (as influenced by Thatcher) is the closest to ours out of the big economies in Europe. Their economy is the strongest out of the trillion dollar economies over there.

The Liberal government has been spending very precariously and now the new government has to do a clean up. With the oil and gas revenues Canada will still be doing fine though. We need more funding in Education and Health though.

Seems like it ! Scary actually seeing more erosion of the distance between church and state. Two working parent families being hurt tax & benefit wise, cuddling up to and toddying to U.S. conservative President who represents the radical religious right .
More government secrecy, less access for the press to political people. Not enough money going to universal education and health care...what is next blocking immigration or a return to immoral death penalty???

That is a very good thing for Canada. Those programs were useless. Now if only the U.S can cut back on social progrrams.

Just hope national health care doesn't come to the U.S. We saw what happened in Canada and what has happened in Tennessee with TennCare. It was a failure and is in the process of being scrapped.

The health system in Canada is breaking the country. It was never to cost so much, but we had warnings.
