Drs often recommend for moms to be to do "kick counts". You begin by drinking cold water or preferably juice (because of the sugar), lay down in a quiet place on your left side and count how many times the baby moves in an hour. They want you to feel at minimum 4...HOWEVER...the Docs don't usually ask moms to do this until after 24 weeks b/c it's not very reliable before then.
As to why cold water...not sure...most suggest juice or a snack.

I've never heard that about ice water. When I go in for the doctor to do a non-stress test, she has me drink a juice box and maybe eat a cookie. The sugar tends to get the baby moving.

I totally agree with drinking juice. I was drinking juice earlier and I kept feeling him move around. Cold water works too. My sister-in-law was worried at 7 months because my niece, Gaby, wasn't really moving around. She went to her OB and she did an ultrasound and Gaby was fine. Her OB said that if she doesn't feel the baby move to drink some cold water and low-and-behold... movement! :)

Try drinking a glass of juice and wait about a half an hour. The sugars should make your baby dance :)

Because the fetal activity is decresed if you are hungry, thirsty, or very tired. It could actually be any one of those to get him/her moving again. Also, during my pregnancy, after sex my daughter would not move at all... thats because she was asleep! it seems we rocked her to sleep, lol...
