A "lotto" is when someone sells chances to win a percentage of the total pot collected. The money collected minus the winnings paid out cover the cost to run the lotto with some left over to pay for whatever cause the lotto was set-up to finance. That is the definition of a lotto. So, think about it for a minute, if you didn't enter the lotto....if you didn't PAY for a lotto ticket, how on earth could you possibly WIN the lotto? Wouldn't all the other participants be pissed off that someone who didn't buy a ticket won all their hard-earned money? Or, do you think this is a "magical" lotto where someone or some group decided they had too much money, so instead of giving it so some worthy charity, they decided to randomly collect names of people and pick a lucky winner and hand them all their dough? Does this sound REMOTELY likely?

Bottom line is this, no one wants to give their hard-earned money away...NO ONE! Sure, there are donations to charities, but the recipient is a worthy cause, not some name from the phone book. And third world countries with thousands....nay millions of starving citizens would never give away money to a foreigner. Don't be duped. Swallow hard, realize you are no richer or no poorer for receiving the letter, and throw it away before you do become poorer.

I got one of these too, and almost didn't find the problem with the check. Just curious, what would happen if one of these checks was deposited in an account, would that be a way for them to get a bank number?

Me too, the name on the check, was it from SHELDON TAGER ASSOCIATES,INC.??? #(416)455-4687. I tried calling the # but mailbox is always full. My check is for $1,996.00. In the back where you're suppose to sign, says VOID. I have Oct.3rd to call. The letter says that they enclosed the check which is required to be paid. what does that mean? Is it possible to cash the check? Better off ripping it up?

I called the commerce bank in New York and asked if the sweepstakes check was any good and they told me they are investigating this and that the check is not any good and should be shredded and thrown away.

Look on the back of the check where you sign. Tilt it, and notice the "Void" printed there.

Go to google and put in the name and see what pops up...

DO NOT SEND THEM YOUR BNK #!

Tell them to send it to you by Currier...Have them deliver it to you at the nearest police station....
