It is painful during a contraction which is the best time to push when the time is appropriate (when the cervix is completely effaced or thinned, and fully dilated at 10cm) The pushing is effective in getting the baby out during contraction or else you waste precious energy.Pushing is bearing down similar when taking a poop. I did the childbirth thing without the epidural . Most opt for the epidural which eliminates the pain but decreases the ability to push due to no sensation. Good luck. The pain during active labour is very intense and unbearable for most. It is like menstrual cramps times 100. The pain subsides when the contraction is over. Have a nice day.

well the actual birthing wasn't bad for me considering i had an epidural.. felt nothing..and my baby popped right out.. everyone is different.. the contraction hurt like hell but i had a kidney infection more painful than that.. you don't even remember the pain at all once you have them.. the real pain comes after you take them home from the hospital and have those lovely every 3-4 hour feedings.. the no sleep, feeling funky stage thats lasts a few months after,,,,,

It's not too painful especially when you have an epidural. Push means to bear down like you do when you go to the bathroom

To put it as mild as I can: It's like having a BM but
much stronger> I would suggest you go to the library
and get a nice book of pregnancy>>>>some have
pictures that show how the baby grows in the womb
and pictures of the mother expelling the baby from
the womb> it will help you understand>

I have never actually given birth but I watched my sister give birth before her epidural kicked in. She screamed at the top of her lungs and told the Dr that she could not give Birth she cursed her Baby daddy (I am not lying) and she tried to grab her rear end and make the Dr stop touching her I felt for her but it was hilarious
