That is a hard question filled with frustration. It is good that they have the freedom to lobby. At the same time, should the people with the most money or the squeakiest wheel get the power?? We definitely don't always get fairly represented.

They get their client's view on the radar screen of lawmakers, and they can help educate lawmakers on their topics of expertise. Some lobbyists have good clients with pure motives. Then there's the other 99%. So on balance, I'd prefer that we not even allow them.

They can all then go get jobs as clerks in the post office.

Not all lobbyists have huge pools of money behind them.

You could get together with the people in your neighborhood and LOBBY your city council to put up a stop sign on your corner.

If you needed lots of new stop signs and had to go to lots of meetings to LOBBY for them you might appoint one person from your group to go and represent you....to act as your lobbyist.

If your stop sign campaign went state wide you'd have to commute back and forth to the state capital, going to lots of committee meetings and educating lots of elected officials about your position and how cool stop signs are. If you got sick of commuting you might pool all your money together and hire 1 person to go to the state house for you to LOBBY on your behalf.

Does this make you a special interest group? Yes probably. Does it make you evil...probably not.

In terms of a specific case where a lobbyist has been useful... Im sure there are several out there...I just don't know of specifics...

However- I like the fact that we live in a country where we can have people speak up for what they believe in and fight for their own point of view...

Therefore, I am glad that people are exercising their rights!

Greetings!

I can only base my answer on my own experience with a lobbyist.
I came home late one night and my wife started a big argument. She was beyond accepting candy and flowers so I sought a compromise of sorts.
I agreed to let her call out a lobbyist to redecorate our downstairs foyer.
It did cost me a lot of money but it paid off because I was let off the hook. Also he split the rebates offered on the wallpaper.

Thanks
Good luck
P.S. I think the wallpaper sucks!
