You need to ride it out. Do an isopropyl alcohol rub, gently. Then take a hot shower and get some rest. Turn off the TV and try not to toss too much, okay?

If you have no mobility to the right, this is painful and serious.

Were you injured recently, or turned your head quickly and felt anything pop? Or did you wake up with a stiff neck one morning?

How long have you had this?

A cervical pillow is helpful. Roll up a towel into a cylinder shape and lie on your back for half an hour.

Also, you can get on your hands and knees, and allow your head to sag and fall forward, to stretch out the muscles. This is natural traction.

If it lasts more than a day or two, see a doctor. This could be the beginning of a serious condition.

I'd say see a chiropractor, too. But people have mixed results with chiros.

First line of treatment is to get muscle relaxers. An osteopath (not an M.D., but a D.O.) can do some manipulation to ease if you have a pinched nerve or injury. X-rays will need to be taken to rule out injury.

If there is a condition, traction is the usual treatment. this involves having your head in a harness, with counterweights pulling up, to ease the interertebral pressures.

Your head weighs about 11-12 pounds, and your neck needs all the rest you can get until this is treated.

Ice and a heating pad probably will work really well. If you pulled a muscle or something, it'll just take a while for it to get better. If it doesn't get better within a week, go to the doctor or the chiropractor. They will be able to tell you what's goin on.

If you are going to be using ice and a heating pad, always end in heat, do not end in ice.
