take the fraction:
p/q, and divide p by q, and the result is your decimal

for example:
1/2=0.5
5/10= 0.5
3/4=0.75
1/3=0.3333333333333333333333333333333333333333333
5/4=1.25

3/5 means three divided by five. So divide top number by bottom number to turn a fraction into a decimal.

.75 = 3/4. think there are 4 quarters in a dollar, 3 out of 4 , or .75 (75 cents) is three out of 4.
or think of .75 as 75/100 and reduce it to 3/4. ( by dividing both numbers by the same number, which in this case is 25.)

Just divide the numerator (top of fraction) by the denominator (bottom number) using standard division techniques (often called long division).
