Hip pain can certainly be referred from a pinched nerve; however, most people with pinched nerves feel better with standing and walking and feel worse with bending over or prolonged sitting.

Some common causes of hip pain in people who run include iliotibial band syndrome, a sprain of the y-ligament, a muscle strain, and tears of the labrum of the hip joint.

Certainly a pinched nerve, or any of the above conditions (or even others) could explain your pain.

I don't prefer to give advice unless we know for sure what is wrong, but it certainly may warrant a trip to the doctor if it doesn't clear up naturally.

What is pinching the nerve? Is it muscle if that is the case I would find a massage therapist who specializes in hip/gluteal/lower back issues to release the muscles around the nerve. Remember this Muscles move bones, so if the bones are not in alignment it is the muscles that are pulling the bones out of place. Check out Pete Egoscue on a search engine. His web site has a few exercises for the hip to do. He also has a book that I have seen on amazon for like 12-15 dollars dealing with chronic pain.. My clients have gotten great results from the book expecially after I released the muscles around the nerve area. If your in the Northern Part of Utah or Southern Part of Idaho. I would say come see me. I do a body specific pain relief session for hip/gluteal/lower back issues. I've been a massage therapist for 20+ years. Professional athletes travel to get worked on by me.. But ask the therapist if they specialize in working the glutes and do they have experience in treating nerves been trapped by muscles..
