Because of the way the earth rotates, all celestial objects (including the sun) appear to rise in the east and therefore set in the west. Even the moon follows this pattern (which would be the only exception if it were to orbit abnormally).

The sun rises in the east, and sets in the west, just as it does anywhere else on earth. If you look at a globe, and imagine it being illuminated by the sun, you will see how this must be so.

The Sun always rises in the general direction of the east and sets in the general direction of the west everywhere in the US except for northern Alaska during November-January, when it doesn't rise at all (or rises and sets in the South) , and during May-July, when it doesn't set at all (or rises and sets in the North).

the sun does not rise nor set...as the earth spins the sun comes into view (rise) from the east side first and as the earth spins ( from west to east) the sun appears to set in the west. But it's really the earth which is moving. if you dont understand try this:
1.hold a ball in your one of your hands
2. stretch out your hands away from your body
3. slowly turn your head from right to left
4.is the ball really moving or is you Read moving?
