Tell him "hey kid i put a new engine in this new type do not run on water, if you want ride with me you have to help paying for gas, otherwise we both have to walk" or just go to school very early or irregular, make it very inconvenient for him to follow he will get the message.

Continue to give him a ride he may have a car soon, and if your car breaks down he'll give you a ride. Your riding the same way anyway you'd spend the same amount of gas. ( Do unto others as you want done to you.)
OR.....
Is it because he's lame? If he is any you feel like you can't be seen with him tell him to get out up the street from the school and let him walk the rest of the way. (except on rainy days) either he'll do it or he won't want a ride from you anymore. It's a win win.

For one thing, talk to your parents about it. Hopefully you have a solid enough relationship to be able to do that. Explain to them (and make sure you plan what you're going to say, and don't get upset!) that this passenger is really starting to annoy you, and that you understand the need s/he has, but you don't feel like you can fulfill that need. Offer to negotiate, perhaps continuing the transportation in return for a decent compensation toward gas money. Just use common sense and make sure to stay calm and collected.
Also, watch your timing. You don't want to bring this up to your parents at a very hectic time. You'll invariably get told to stuff it and live with the problem. Hope this helps!

It's your car... You pay for gas... Tell him no money no rides. end of story. If your folks say anything ask them if they will pay his portion of the gas money.
Tell him you want him to pay for a tank of gas a month for the rides. I figure at today prices should be about $40-$50... I bet $40-$50 extra in you pocket will help ease the burden.

just tell him to get out of your car unless he has a $20 for the gas for his ride to school. If he complains to your parents then ask your parents for the money.

talk with your parents about how unless he starts chipping in for gas you wont give him a ride anymore. Worked for me last year to get rid of kid bumming off me just because our parents were friends.

just because both parents know each other doesn't mean your obligated to give him a ride.gas isn't cheap now days but if you start charging him i'm sure he will find another way to school and then your rid of the problem.or tell him you have to pick up some of your friends and your sorry but there won't be any room. sorry thats the best i can come up with . good luck pete

Brother, remember the words of the wise man Solomon ( BIBLE ) : throw your bread upon the waters and you shall find it after many days .
Keep doing good even if there is no reward NOW because in God's own time , the good you have done will be repaid... whether by that same person or somebody else... of course God will reward you as long as you continue to do good. God Bless you

talk to your parents and let them know that you don't want to give this kid a ride anymore and if you still have to make sure you get some gas money even if you have to make him walk home evryday untill he does.
