Yeah i know that feeling -that happens me when i get a cold. It feels like you have a bucket over your head to me cos it makes everything sound different. Anyways its caused by the small tubes that run from your ear to the back of your throat (eustachian tubes is their official name) being blocked with mucus from your cold/infection.
There's a few things you can try - some steam inhalation with some eucalyptus oil, try make your ears pop by holding your nose and blowing (although in my experience, that hurts), try not eat/drink dairy as it increases mucus production...........when i have this problem before, sometimes it clears up in a few days, but if not you have to go to the doc who'll will give you some anti-biotics which will fix it :-)

as far as i'm concerned it's just a side effect of colds. it's happened to me plenty of time. not a doctor, but just giving my input. You could also always look this kind of thing up on the computer, like 'side effects of colds' on google or something.
actually, at one point, i had an ear plugged for a week, and i WASNT EVEN SICK ! you could try ear drops, but it if persists for more than a week i'd see a doctor because he could probably give you prescription eardrops. you may have an infection too, so get it checked out.
hope i helped. =]

Sometimes thats what happens. Thats what leads to ear infections. Make sure you take a decongestant, itll help. Keep drinking and keep eating, even if you dont feel like it. Itll help you to keep some strength. I like Nyquil cuz you can sleep at night.
ALSO...Go get some Oregano drops from GNC. Its a germ killer and great for colds. Itll get rid of it quicker.

your ears are connected by a tube to the pharynx...your middle ear more exactly to the pharynx by the auditory tube, with has the role of equalizing the pressure in your middle ear with the pressure in your pharynx(and so , with the pressure outside). when you have a cold, the pharynx becomes swollen, the mucosae of the pharynx, and so, the openings of these tubes in the pharynx are blocked, and the pressures in your ear (around your ear-drum - tympanum) don`t equalise...the result is the sensation of plugged up ears.
