It depends on what you mean by classic rock. The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and Bob Dylan are all good standbys. But if you're into classic punk rock, I'd go for The Ramones, The Clash, The Stooges, and the New York Dolls.

did they go back far enough how about rockabilly the songs put out by sun recordings including carl perkins and johnny cash and elvis presley and jerry lee lewis and conway twitty bill black ans scotty newland they toured with the big bopper and sang songs like whole lotta shakin goin on and blue suede shoes and they sang each others songs ,, and little richard was the original r&b rocker ask any english guitar player he toured england with that rock sound early and his teen guitar player was jimmy hendricks before hendricks became jimi
