apply for a permit with your secretary of state if you want to be on capitol property.

By all means obtain permits from the city clerk. A permit from your secretary of State is a good idea, too.

Please be aware, though, that stomping is not a peaceful act. I agree wholeheartedly that myths and misconceptions about our mentally ill need to be dispelled. You would be better served by convincing an investigative journalist to do a documentary on your subject than risking a demonstration turned violent by someone using your crowd as justification or screen for aggressive behavior.

In Bush's America, the cops and government go off on even peaceful protesters. If youre going to demonstrate, be prepared for the worst. That means know how you will get bailed out of jail should you end up there, know what to do (if there is anything you can do) if you get tear-gased, pepper sprayed, tasered, etc.

Im not discouraging you from demonstrating, but you should do your homework ahead of time. Free speech is often relegated to "free speech zones" in Bush's America. Peaceful protesters are attacked with the excuse that sticks used to hold up signs can be used as weapons, etc. Use google to do some research.

First, you go to city hall and get a permit. Then gather others and go march quietly, respectfully and sensibly. You or some other speaker can get your message out thru a microphone without chanting and yelling.

Don't forget passing out free pretzels and lemonade can win a number of people to march with you.

Just go down to city hall and ask for a permit. It's different everywhere, but you may have to pay, but I'm not sure.
