Religion influences not our biological genders but our gender identities, gender expressions, and gender preferences.
First to define these terms, our biological gender is the gender we are born with (having penises or vaginas or sometimes even both). Our gender identity is how we view ourselves, so that means that a man may think himself as a woman and a woman may feel that he is a man. *oh-oh getting tricky here* Gender expression is how we let others view our gender. Like, there are woman who dresses with guy clothes and acts kind of macho-ish while there are man that acts in a more feminine way but they still think they are men and straight ones at that. Gender preference is who a person is attracted to. Like a man may be attracted to a man or a woman or both and that goes for girls. The thing to remember here is that the biological gender, gender preference, gender identity and gender expression are all DIFFERENT from one another. It doesn't mean that if a girl likes a girl (gender preference) that she'd wear guy clothes (gender identity).
So how does religion affect all these?
*Biological Gender - no influence
*Gender Preference - there are religions who make it a sin when a they are homosexual so these people may suppress these feelings
*Gender Expression - some religions may make women and men dress a certain way and act a certain way for them to be "holier"
*Gender Identity - again, there are religions that won't let guys be girls and girls be guys that is why some transexuals don't come out
You have to look at the "rules" of each religion in regards to these four in order to see the direct influences because there are so many religions out there and I can only generalize. :)

Religion can influence gender roles, not gender in general; this is genetically determined.

Gender is almost completely determined by xy or xx chromosomes. There are some people who have testicular feminization; they have xy chromosomes but look like girls.
I don't know what religion has to do with it

Well, it should make all women atheists. Go figure.
Edit:
Truth hurts, don't it? And those 3 thumbs down were likely from women. Talk about brainwashed.
