I've 2 computers all runing xp pro with a dsl connection on one. they'r connected directly without a hub thus using the crossover cable. after setting up the network, i recieve an error of network path was not found. from my observation, the computer which has the dsl connection is able to view the members in the workgroup but cannot access them. i've tried configuring them manually, renew ip address and disable the svchost services but the problem seem not to be solved. please help me resolve this menance.

First, disabling the svchost service does you no good whatsoever, and will cause you a thousand headaches as time goes on. Enable it.

Second, it's hard to tell what you did "wrong". Easiest to start fresh. Go to the dsl-connected system and run the network configuration wizard. Give your workgroup a different name. Then make the network disk and run it on the second computer. For peer-to-peer networks, not running the wizard causes a host of problems if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing.
