All Iraqi banknotes are perfectly legal to own in the US. If you look on eBay, you will see current Iraqi banknotes being touted as a great investment. I don't see any investment potential, but I do have a complete set of current Iraqi banknotes in my collection.
I believe Iranian banknotes are also legal to own. I saw complete sets being offered at recent coin shows, and I know of American banknote dealers that have them for sale.

The only two countries that we still have a trade embargo with are Cuba and North Korea.

It's not illegal.

Better check the Iraqi laws on currency though - I believe Iraqi currency has no (zero) value outside of Iraq.

I don't think it is illegal. We are allies with the reigning government in Iraq. There was an ad in USA today, someone selling Iraqi money.

Iran's assets were nationalized when they kidnapped Americans and held them hostage. Not sure about that.

It is not illegal to possess any foriegn currency. I myself sold three ciggarettes for 150 denerii. Now if you procured it under illegal means or you atttempting to embezzle it then it would be illegal. And no it's not illegal to have large amounts but it does subject you to less protection for investigative purposes.

no way, in fact, purchasing Iraqi currency on the speculation that it will appreciate is the good old American way.
