Please forgive if I misunderstand your question. But, if you meant "life" as the phenomenon of all life, versus "life" as the collection of days and personal experiences that add up to be our "lives", and, if you meant "rain shower" versus "personal hygiene" shower, I have an idea for how to answer your question. I'll write and be back.
Life is like a shower in that everything everywhere is constantly changing. What we know about the Universe so far is that about 1-3% of it is made of photons. The other 97% or so we call "dark matter" and we don't know anything about that yet. But, we know that life is made of photons. Photons are tiny bundles of energy that fly in wiggly waves. When two or three photons come together in a shimmering way, they can form tiny "particles" of what we call "matter. We call those tiny shimmerings or particles of matter, "electrons, protons and neutrons". Those particles made of photons can come together into families called "atoms". Atoms that are alike can come together and form elements, such as hydrogen, oxygen, sodium, gold, nitrogen, etc. Elements can come together and form compounds. Compounds can come together and form inorganic compounds. Inorganic compounds can come together and form lifeforms capable of consciousness and possessing senses. Life is made of photons that are shimmering together in a form we call matter.
The average human physical body, for example, is composed of these elements:
Oxygen 44.0 kg
Carbon 12.2
Hydrogen 6.8
Nitrogen 2.0
Calcium 1.36
Phosphorus 0.58
Potassium 0.22
Sulphur 0.22
Sodium 0.11
Chlorine 0.11
Magnesium 0.03
When matter "untangles", photons are released and they fly away in wiggly waves again. Matter (tangled photons) and energy (photons flying free in wiggly waves) can change back and forth and be either form. That is what Einstein's formula, E=MC2 means.
When photons are shimmering together in the form of matter, the atom families that they form can shimmer closely together or loosely together or very loosely apart. When the atoms of an element or compound, such as water, shimmer closely, we perceive them as "solid" matter. When atoms shimmer loosely, we perceive them as "liquid". And, when atoms shimmer very loosely, we preceive them as "gas". Another way that atoms can shimmer together is perceived as "plasma". EVERYTHING, all matter, all elements, including you, can be solid, liquid or gas (I'm not sure about plasma -knowledge deficit) depending on the surrounding temperature and pressure. Water can be solid (ice), or liquid (water) or gas (steam/clouds/mist).
Life is like a rain shower in that each are made of photons that are constantly forming into structures and constantly changing states of matter and constantly un-forming. The water cycle and "from dust to dust".

because showers were created for dirty people, and theirs a lot of them, but, in a sense, a shower is completely unnecessary if you stay clean.

-it eventually ends no matter how much you're enjoying it.
-sometimes you dont get the right temperature (just like life is not fair and you do not always get everything you want)

you can guess what is going to happen (like predicting weather) but you will never know for sure what to expect
