It is normal for lots of moms but make sure to mention it to your doctor (or the pediatrician) to make sure you don't have some depression-type things happening.

The lack of sleep, always being vigilant, the newness of taking care of the baby, balancing your love life between the baby and the hubby, keeping up with the triple-laundry-load that a baby brings, feeding the baby, getting the baby to doctor's appointments, trying to keep the housework up-to-date in case the mother-in-law drops in unexpectedly, etc, etc, etc...... All of that and the millions of other added duties since the baby arrived all create stress. Stress causes memory lapses.
You have to make time for yourself!!! You and the hubby should take one night a month where you bring in a babysitter and go on a romantic date. Whether it is to an expensive restaurant or McD's and a movie, it does not matter. The point is that you take time for yourselves at least one night per month. Take your mother-in-law up on her offer to stay with the baby while you go grocery shopping. There should never be any guilt about not having the baby with you 100% of the time. Of course you want that the first few months, but you have to make time for you or you will burn out before your kid starts school. :)
OK... now what was I doing???

Yup, it's normal. I'm at 25wks and do this constantly. I feel so dee dee dee at times I want to slap myself! lol It's temporary though. Once things settle down and you get into a routine that's a tad more like the one you had before and one that you're comfortable in, you should feel less stressed and things should return to normal. (At least I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they return to normal. I don't think I could handle being addle brained for the rest of my life. LOL) I didn't have this problem with my first two, so I'm pretty sure my absent mindedness will go away in time. Hopefully your's will too. Good luck!!

Mine are 11 and 9 and I still have memory loss. Now the question is is it due to childbirth or age? I do remember a moment of feeling proud of myself for using a four syllable word when my youngest was one. I lost my vocabulary more than anything. Good luck. It should get better.

yep. totally normal. The combination of lack of sleep, parental worries and nutritional drain makes you quite loopy headed. It gets better in about 18 months - earlier if you eat well and get that baby on a schedule so that you can sleep.
