I remember making this cool thing by pouring colored sand into a jar. I still have it actually. Anyway, I was wondering if colored sand was something you could get at like Walmart or something and also if there were any specific things I am forgetting regarding how to make the jars....do we have to glue the lids on, etc.

What is great is to collect sand from different places like beaches or construction sites or any where you have different color sand. My mother in law when she finds out someone is going on vacation or somewhere makes sure they bring back a cup of sand and then you have history to go along with your hobby. Just make sure never to shake it up

Remember to shove something (I think we used pencils) in the jar down against the sides as you are making the different layers to make the peaks and valleys.
