I had a Crayfish that did this once. I spotted him at the bottom corner of my Aquarium Stand and as I approached him he put his claws up at me! LOL! How cute!
I took him down to my LFS so they could feed him to their Oscar's.

My crab used to escape alllllll the time. He would usually end up in the filter compartment of the aquarium, so that was lucky. He was using the plant leaves as a springboard. Silly crab.

Crabs tend to breed on land, so you may have a chance of locating it. Leave a couple of saucers of water with ramps lying around and check in every nook and cranny in the room (they can travel well when they want to. Check out your filter (take out all the media) just in case.

When I was little my uncle had crabs that got out. He always found them in the bathroom. I guess they sensed the water and figured it was the best place for them. Good Luck finding it.

That happened to me! But, mine was a crayfish (crawdaddy).
My daughter had caught it in a nearby creek, and added it to our aquarium.
Well, that crawdaddy climbed up the air filter tube, over the edge of the tank, and made a run for it!
We looked for days! No crawdaddy.
About a week later -
Late one evening, my sister was cuddled up on the sofa, with her boyfriend, when - from under the sofa, came a creature, all hairy, with no face!! Crawling, slowly, right between their feet!
You coulda' heard my sister scream for two counties!
After we peeled my sister off the ceiling, we discovered that our crawdaddy, before he made his entrance, had gathered up all the dust bunnies under our sofa!
He had gobs of dog hair, etc. stuck all over him!!
But, he was alive and well. Maybe not well, but alive!
That weekend, we put him back in the creek, where she found him! We figured we owed it to him!
Happy hunting!

put a rock in the middle of the room, your crab might crawl under it.
