I will be visiting San Diego in January '07 and would like to play a couple of rounds of golf. What would be considered some of the premiere golf courses in the San Diego/La Jolla area. Thanks

Yes, yes, I know there are websites I can visit that will tell me what golf courses are in San Diego, but they don't give me any local knowledge. There are websites pushing all the golf courses in the Palm Springs area too, but having lived here for twenty years I certainly would not recommend all of them. But thanks anyway.

People are going to answer with Torrey Pines, and while it's a muni and it's hosting the 2008 U.S. Open, it's going to next to impossible to get on. If you can get a tee time, then play it (The South Course).

Torrey Pines South Course is the one the PGA is going to play in 2008 so that may be a decent option.

Coronado has a decent public course and besides its in Coronado.

There are a few really nice ones out east of downtown san diego but if youre visitng then its probably best to play coastal courses.
