Old enough to have one's own credit card, since that is an almost universal requirement to check in.

They will not trust you to pay for the room, meals, extra telephone calls, etc at check out. They will swipe the card and block out the cost of two or three nights of room fees.

This is just in case someone decides to "check out" in the middle of the night.

This is not a snide or scarcastic answer. This is how it is.

Most places its 21 but some you can get at 18
