hey everybody. i just have a few questions.
OKAY yes i've heard all about the hymen breaking from exercise, bike riding, masturbation, tampons. some people say it can't happen, but i'm not too sure i believe them.
i've used tampons a lot, i use them basically throughout my whole period.i masturbate everyday. i have a vibrator (i don't insert it) but i insert my fingers as far as I can put them in. my mom mentioned taking me to the gyn to get checked just to see if everything is ok. but what if my hymen is broken, because i am under 18 the doctor has to tell my mom everything. i mean i can always tell the gyn that i masturbate if he asks but if he tells my mom.. she will most likely FREAK on me.
also, i heard the hymen is in the front and i heard its deep in there. but i looked it up and the encyclopedia says its in the front, by the opening. is it possible i broke my hymen already? should i be worried about goin to the gyn? thanks for your help, its much appreciated !!!!

The doctor is kept within doctor patient confidentiality unless there is something that your mother has to pay for or has to know, such as if there is something physically wrong with you, even then he/she will still be limited on what he/she can say without your permission.
Your hymen being broken isn't a big deal, he/she would probably not bat an eyelid if your hymen is broken or not, and he/she will not tell your mother if you masturbate, however if she has any common sense she will already know – sorry if that possibly disgusts you a little, but masturbation is normal and healthy most people do it and unless your parent is a seriously hard-core religious fundamentalist it won't be a problem to her.
The hymen is right at the opening to your vagina, you can see it quite easily simply by looking, although if you're not sure what you are looking for it helps if you lay on your bed with your back propped up against something, make sure you have plenty of light and look at your vulva with a mirror – don't be scared to look, examine yourself if you haven't already done that in the past, learn where everything is, appreciate what it looks like and feels like. It will show itself as a ring of flesh around the opening to your vagina, if it is broken it may show itself as little flaps of skin – everyone is different, depends on what your hymen was like before, if you even had a hymen to begin with, what type of hymen, how much penetration there has been, and so on.
This is a good website for hymen images (not photos);
http://www.healthystrokes.com/hymengallery.html
It shows different types of hymens, the fourth one down is probably going to be similar to yours, just to give you an idea on what to look for.
As for whether or not to be worried, well if this is all you have to worry about then you will be absolutely fine!
There is another web site you might find useful, it's all about first visits to the gyno so it may be useful for you, I'd also say to take a look through Scarleteen as this is an age when you really need to start learning all about your body.
http://www.firstvisit.org - First visit to gyno informaiton.
http://www.scarleteen.com - Very good sexual health site.
Don't be scared to ask the gyno questions as well, it's a good opportunity to learn new things, and they won't tell your mother anything you don't want them to.

The hymen can be stretched open through sexual intercourse, but it can also be stretched open during all sorts of other physical activities. Something as simple as playing sports, horseback riding, or riding a bicycle can stretch open the hymen.
If a woman's hymen hasn't been stretched open before she has sexual intercourse, inserting a penis or a sex toy usually stretches it (some people call it "popping the cherry"). Some girls don't feel any pain when this happens, but others do. There might even be a little bit of bleeding if the hymen wasn't stretched open before intercourse. However, a woman should see a clinician if she's in a lot of pain or bleeding heavily after intercourse.
Scientists aren't sure exactly what the hymen does for the body, but it's very important for some people as a sign of virginity. Some people believe that a woman whose hymen has been stretched open is no longer a virgin. But having a hymen and being a virgin are not the same thing. Don't forget, there are many ways that a woman can stretch her hymen — sexual intercourse is just one of them. No one, not even a clinician, would be able to tell that a woman is not a virgin just by looking at her hymen.
Just cause your hymen is broken doesnt mean the dr will report you to your parents. Get the exam and get it over with!

You probably have ruptured your hymen. Since you always use tampons, this would be an entirely natural finding. The gynaecologist will not find it unusual.
What age are you?. You have a right to patient confidentiality unless it is something of vital interest to your health care. A broken hymen could not be considered in this category. Also, why tell anyone that you masturbate? Your mother shouldn't freak because, statistically speaking, she almost certainly masturbated too at your age!!

you have most likely broken your hymen already by using tampons. it is not deep in it is at the very opening of your vagina and is merely a ring of tissue. btw, the doctor will not discuss personal matters with your mother if you ask them not to. usually, when a teen girl goes for her first gyn appt you get some time alone with the doctor, they should specifically ask your mom to leave the room. they want to talk to you about sex, stds, pregnancy, drugs and alcohol, and birth control just in case the girl needs help with these type of issues. all sexual discussions between a minor and the doctor are confidential. be sure he or she is aware you want to keep it that way.

Yes, you could break it doing anything. the gyn will not ask if you use a vibrator. it is such a thing breakable piece of skin that it doesn't mean anything. it used to mean something back then, but not now.

the hymen may have been broken and you may not have noticed. as far as i know the doctor should not breach your confidence and tell your mother. he should only tell her anything if there is any real medical concerns or problems.
