Simple answer, walk down Jermyn street (west end), you will find Thomas Pink, Lewins, Tywritt, Hackett, Crombie and a multitude of others all eager for you trade so compete at very reasonable prices. Excellent quality and ranges, basically if it isnt on this street, it doesnt exist

Harrods and Liberty (a bit better deals) are all good. But why, oh why nobody has mentioned Jermyn Street!
A very convenient place for such purchase is actually Canary Wharf. You've got Lewin, Links, Pink, and quite a few others under one roof.

Go to Liberty of London. They have excellent quality ties and bowties with distinctive designs. Noted for their fabric, they are located a couple of blocks from Harrod's, which is also a great place to shop.

I never before bought a tie in London, so this is the only way I could help. The first 2 links especially look good!
