Unix costs money and Linux doesn't.

THe capobilitys are pretty much the same. Usually it depends on what you are going to use it for so you can get different types or distros of the Linux or Unix. So if you want a good basic home system for linux to use at your PC w/o the need for trouble-shooting or anything basic Mandriva linux is best..anything corperate you may want to use Unix, a variant tailord to your needs.

I say go debian linux (net install) but hey, my way doesn't work for everyone...gist is: They are the same basicly, one is free the other costs money. WHen in doubt go Linux, and there is nothing that one can do that another can't.
