I think a lot of people admire the man's 'guts'. I really don't think Chavez is either a 'devil' or a 'saviour' for Latin America. He is not a madman. He has seen certain abuses and is trying to deal with them. Is he cinical, looking more for personal power? Could be. I think we can find that closer to home in both the USA and Canada. He blasts Bush and the US because the US government has been doing everything it can to undermine his authority in Venezuela. Now let's say the US government is right in doing that. Even then they shouldn't be surprised that Chavez lashes out at them.
Is Chavez opressing Venezuelans? Probably in some cases. You should see what the previous right-wing Venezuelan governments did.
I think the best thing the US government could do would be to show respect and friendship. - a lot of catching up to do. If you attack and isolate a government you end up creating not only one enemy but a number of others who will symathize.
For example, I believe US hostility has been an important factor in keeping the Castro regime in power in Cuba. too bad.

Did you know most of the UN is made up of 3rd world countries who are jealous b/c they spend most of their lives taking craps into little holes of dirt and drinking water that is too filthy for most animals to drink. Yeah so i take their applause for a dictator fascist like Chavez with a grain of salt. It isnt hard to make 3rd world countries applaud, they arent the brightest people around. What would Chavez be if he didnt have Petrodollars to throw around?

Chavez oppresses his own people. You can get a long term in prison if you say anything against Chavez in his own country.
Newspapers have to print whatever Chavez wants to be printed. This guy is not cool. He's a dictator. Any American who praises this guy is CLUELESS.
Here in the US you can criticize the president and nothing happens to you. Can't the CLUELESS see the difference? I'm sick of uninformed people.

Actually, Most of the media covered it. One of America's top Democrat's came back biting at Hugo for what he said and did in the USA. At least there are democrats who care about what is said about our President no matter how much you HATE him.

Also, covering and re-reporting a mad-man like Chavez would be tantamount to torture and we are protected from that kinda treatment.

Also, who cares what a mad-man like Chavez thinks anyways? He is a dictator who would kill his own people if they got in his way or said something against him. If you people like him that much, GO and LIVE there!

Yes I do. That is just another of many reasons the U.S. should get out of the U.N. We pay a lot to be abused by the very nations which run to us everytime they need help. We are very capable of taking care of ourselves without the "help" of nations like France and Germany.
