I'm writing a social criticism about how people are so easily offended. I need ideas about the less serious tings that people get worked up over. Thanks!

Less serious? People can be offended by your language, by the clothes you wear, a casual glance. You can offend people by insulting their favorite movie or telling them they asked a stupid question when they did. Some girls (and guys) get offended if you so much as look at their bf/gf. Just to name a few.

Withholding Common Courtesy. In other words, Rudeness.
Right after 9/11, I was in a crowded grocery store and everyone was making eye contact, being respectful of others, there was more "thank you"s and "excuse me"s than I've heard in all my life. It was not until then that I had realized how far we have sunk as a society and consideration of our fellow man.

everything. we live in a society where you can no longer have yoru own opinions. after all we cant offend anyone. for example. in christmas songs. the one about Frosty the snowman. and the part of Parson brown.. they had to change that to Circus clown. what a friggin idiot. the thing is this. the only way to NOT offend anyone is to not believe in ANYTHING. the moment you believe in something. you have automatically offended SOMEONE.

Over familiarity from people I dont know too well,and encroachment into my personal space.I'm not religious and dont regularly go to church,but I do for weddings and the like.I really detest the way casual swearing is used in a church.That is very disrespecful.

Okay. Here's a good one:
Why are so many people prejudiced against overweight people? I don't even mean "obese". Why do some people have an unreasoning hatred for those who are even only mildly overweight?

well negativity can upset some. do an experiment right here, post an offensive anti american statement, then offend japan and compare both, my hypothesis would be usa will declare ultimate war emphasising dude and power destroy etc and you will get little response from japan they are pure humility and have respect.

racist remarks;puns;stupid actions;dumb jokes; the way you might look at someone;people that blow their horns (really ticks some people off);when someone rolls their eyes;whining babies;talking with your hands; people tat are hard of hearing. Some people get offended by the DUMBEST things. Hope my list could help ; )

People get upset when others don't agree with them. This is the crux of the problem. We should respect each other enough to peacefully disagree.

I also think it could be the person getting offended;the individual...he/she could be reponding differently than they normally would if they had a bad day, or a good day or whatever...
