I was talking to a man from Iraq who immigrated here to the U.S. 10 yrs. ago and he was speaking of the atrocities and unfairness of his country to the ppl. He spoke of torture, rape, murders, beatings etc. and of how American ppl don't appreciate the U.S. and he coudn't understand it. He came here with a few family members and brought several more over but some still live in that area and he said they say it is much better since the Americans have come, they have built sewers, water supplies and have made it much safer. He said there were many more murders and bombings everyday before the U.S. came over and that those that are happening now are a lot less. He asked me why can't Americans see how fortunate they are and how many privileges and rights they have and how many opportunities they have to better themselves and make a better life for their families.

You can't generalize from a single example. By saying someone else is bad, you're not saying the other is good. The USA has a lot of problems which need to be taken care of before the rest of the world can appreciate them and one of the most serious is alway sticking their noses into other peoples' business.

I agree with you. I think that parents have a lot to do with that in how they raise their kids. But I've actually seen people that have came here from other countries and take such advantage of America!! I recently moved to California from Michigan and some of the people here just make it so dirty!!! And take advantage of the system

Americans did come from other countries. Technically there isn't any such thing as a pure American.

Our problem is that we have always had it, and our society is such that we feel we deserve to have it. Doesn't everyone live like we do?, they think.

As an American, I am thankful for the freedoms we enjoy here.

I agree. I see people on TV in Africa who walk miles just to attend school. They are so appreciative of people who send them books and supplies you would think they have just won the lottery. (Because to them they have) They understand that knowledge is power and in the US kids have to be forced to go to school. (If they even make it there at all.) It's really sad.

Because we don't always realise how good we have it since we really have little to compare it to not having lived else where.

because americans are spoiled and they don't know what real hunger is! they are unhappy if their shoes are a little too tight, so we need to trow them away, and go buy a new pair. they just don't appreciate wat they have.
