LOL, you are right to feel discouraged. People have a way with words that make the hair on the back of your kneck stand up. However, look at yourself. Married for two years, together for 5...house, college, and careers. You are already way ahead of most of us out here..LOL Even though you feel discouraged, don't. I know that everyone is going to have their opinion, but the thing is this...that is all it is, an opinion. If you were to give into opinions easily, you wouldn't be married at your age, and neither would your wife :) I was 19 when I had my first baby. I didn't have anyone around to help except my parents, and when she was almost two, my high school best friend (not even sweetheart LOL) came back from Japan (he is in the Navy)...we got married in 1996, and just celebrated our ten year anniversary. We were22 when we got married, and by the time we were 25, had two more kids :) Yep, we worked fast, and the odds were against us, and there has been a few mountains here and there (miltary ya know!!) but, we are making it. Our kids are now 12, 9, and 8...and we are happy with the decisions we made, even though everyone had something to say. You go with what your hearts are telling you because when it comes down to it, you and I both know that the only ones really controlling THAT situation is you and your wife. Good luck and God bless...you should post on here if you get an early Christmas present :) Have a great day!!!

I don't think you are that young, either!!
Lots of people have a horrible attitude about marriage these days; don't let it discourage you. You know that you have what it takes to make it work. There is nothing magical or mysterious about good marriages. It just takes commitment and compromise.
We were 20 and 22 when we got married. We bought a house the following year, and had our first child 3 years later. Neither of us finished college, but we have both had good jobs all our lives. We had 4 children in 8 years and there have been lots of ups and downs, but the main thing is that we stick together no matter what.
If you both think it will work... then it will. Nobody can tell you differently. Let them be pessimists, that's not your problem.

I was 24 and my wife was 22, together for five years before first child was born. We have to kids now and married for nine years now, wife is divorcing me. Just isn't feeling like a wife any more, don't think age has anything to do with it. Don't feel discourage about your marriage because of what someone else is saying. You said it yourself, you two are happy & very committed to eachother
and that is what keeps a marriage strong and lasting.

I'm still with my spouse after 12 years and 4 kids. Unfortunately, I have just found out that my husband has been messing around. We got married at 21 and had the first child at 22. The problem for us does not lie in our age. It lies in my husband not be ready and not being adult enough to stick with his commitment. If you are both ready, go for it. Congratulations on 5 years of happiness together. Age is just an excuse some jerks use as an excuse for doing what they want even though it violates their marriage vows. I wish my husband had loved me as much as you obviously love your wife.

Married at 23, my wife was 19. We had our first child when she was 20, second child 22, third child 25, fourth child 30, fifth child 35. Going on 18 years happily married. It took a lot of work and a lot of giving in. We made our marriage our #1 priority and it is working so far. Good luck!

I was 17years old when I met my hubby, at 23 years of age I married him. I had my daughter right after and then came my son. Seventeen years later we own our own business, have an amazing home, most of all a life time of loving memories.
So, to answer your question, " DO NOT FEEL DISCOURAGE" this is a perfect time to have children. When my husband and I take the kids out were like two kids ourselves, that is thy most rewarded part of having children young you can truly enjoy them. Most couples want to enjoy the first years of marriage and then think about having children. It's sad when I see parents that are not well kept (age) and don't interact with their children.
Go home tonight and make a baby!!!! LOL
Best of luck!

I was married, after my then friend, had our first child. We were both in college. We divorced14 years later. I know for certain that it was not due to our age. In our case we were not a couple when she became pregnant. Our marriage was an attempt to do the best thing for our child. We did however fall in love and produced two more children. The marriage failed however due to incompatibility which we could not overcome. We have remained friends to this day and I have remarried. All our children are grown and they accept, respect and love my present wife.
As for your marriage, statistics mean nothing. It all depends on you(both) and you alone. Continue with your dedication and make it a continuous loving process.
Ignore the jealous haters.

Don't believe them.
People who wait to have children end up divorced too, after realizing they can't conceive because they've waited too long, or they go through years of fertility treatment that pulls them apart, etc.
There can be problems parenting while younger, OR older.
I am 25, and my husband is 32. We've been together for 5 years, married for 4, and we have a 3 year old daughter.
I have never been happier.
I would have been miserable if I had waited until my 30's to have children.

I don't think the age is as important as the time together. The two of you have been together for 5 years and that shows real stability. Having kids early also means that you'll be "rid" of them early and that gives you more time to spend together later in life. Don't let statistics drive your future. Love your wife and if that love produces a child then it's right.
