The territory over which a government or subdivision thereof has jurisdiction.

It's power over property and the persons within the territory.

it deals with the area in which a law or lack of law or enforcing law is allowed. For example- if a cop pulls you over in phila, and is a jersey cop, they are not legally allowed to give you a ticket but jurisdiction is smaller for most parts like town, city, county, depending on the rank.. same goes for practicing law and pattons and other legal aspects. lawyers and judges are only allowed to practive within their jurisdiction or territory, but can take a test to practice in other areas while cops are only allowed to ticket in there assigned territories.
