What is a printer subsystem?

Attempting to install new laser printer, after solving installation probs with a friend's help I cannot get my computer to talk to printer. When I try troubleshooting, I get the message: The printer subsystem in unavailable. Don't know if friend deleted something important, can't find in recycle bin. Windows help index has no listing. Any ideas?

Reinstall the drivers...Make sure you are pointed to the right printer....Make sure your connections are in place.....Make sure if you are using USB that in the properties of the printer that you specify that....Conversely if you are using Parallel port, make sure you are pointed to LPT 1 instead of USB.
