I'm curious to understand the politics behind gas pricing. It seems like the price of gas can just be whatever someone wants to make it, without any formula....?

The oil people are backing off prices in the hope that stupid Americans will forget that they've been getting the hose for the past year, and let the oil loving Re-pubes stay in office to give more billions of American taxpayer dollars as incentives. 17 billion last time.

You got it babe, that is exactly what it does. Now when someone comes along and has an alternate source of energy are you going to listen and consider it or are you just going to jump in your car a peel away? Well for about the last 70 years people have been peeling away and now it is time that the peeling is on us, they peel off $20, then they peel off $40 and now they are peeling off $60 for a barrel of oil. Do you get the picture? Like a bad burn on a sunny day on the beach, they know there is more underneath so they keep the heat up and you peel away. Wait until someone decides it should be $100 a barrel or wait maybe $120 who knows, when you are a Saudi Oil Sheik and you are friends of George Bush, why not make it $140 plus!

Are you people just stupid or what? It is not political it is economic. First the oil has to be found then gotten out of the ground .Before it is even out of the ground futures are traded. These people don't even see the oil.The oil-companies pays the futures prices then have to refine it and in the summer months blend it to meet EPA standards of various regions these blends can not mix with any one else's blend so they had to come up with a way to pipe a certain amount then throw in a pig and load the next batch. All of this costs money. It is a business not a government program they run at a deficit and you get no gas.
Grow up and learn something, quit listening to mindless conspiracy theories.

My guess is
after Oil companies owning up 2 lying about reserves, or rather underestimated.
Now there's more Oil coming thru it's affected Oil reserves & reflected in the Prices.
Oil is on it's way from some new sources.
Iraq
Kazakhstan.
& the Balkans.
They do after all want 2 keep it going.
Supply & demand?
& I read 2day the Price has fallen 4 crude Oil.
Prices may/will fall at the Pumps in reflection.

It follows the basic principles of supply and demand. Although the oil companies buy barrels of oil to predict the demand. When they are wrong, that's when prices are high. Right now prices should go down because they bought more than the demand.

Are you serious?
If so, go take an high school economics course.
Or listen to supply & demand in grade school classes.
Or watch business programs on TV.
Or read just a little.
It's very simple and easy to understand.
And no, no conspiracies involved. No space aliens.

Gas is 2.00 per gallon, we want to make more money. Let's raise gas to 3.00 then when everybody freaks out we'll take it down to 2.50. They will be so relieved that they won't care that gas is now 2.50.
