Dont be upset mice are very common, I have recently accuired a few new friends also.

If you had rats it would be a differant story.

However mice are still pests and carry germs.

Do you have a cat??? If so that cat will take care of them.

If you dont purchase some mouse traps.

A mouse always moves around the edge of the room to stay in the shadows so dont expect one to take the bait if its in the trap is in the centre.
Put the trap in the little gap under your fridge so it cant be moved around easily. Then for the bait.... You need a tiny bit of grated cheese, Not a big block as many think... Place this in the trap. Also place another bit of cheese away from the trap but not to far so the mouse wont notice it.

Go to bed and if you here the "WHACK" You know youve got rid of one of your little buddys.

Also dont be surprised if you find a mouse that is still alive in a trap.. The chances are that it has broken its legs and other bones is high.. The best thing then you could do would be to stand on it really hard.. to put it out of its pain.

Hope this helps.

I know, it can be horrible to have a rat in your house. A couple of years ago, a rat got into my house because I'd been leaving the garden door open in the hot weather. I first realised it was there when it left droppings in the bath - it was first thing in the morning and I was just about to step into the shower, barely awake as usual. Thank heavens I spotted it just in time!

Having grown up on a farm, I'm not much fussed by mice - they get everywhere. Rats are a different story though. They're incontinent so they spray urine everywhere they go and they are a major health risk. If you haven't actually seen whether it's a rat or a mouse, you can tell by the size of the droppings. Mouse droppings aren't much bigger than hundreds and thousands, whereas rat droppings are the same shape, but they're about an inch long.

If you do have a rat, you can call your local council and they will come in and lay poison for you, and then remove the rat when it's dead. That's what I did, and they were very helpful. You can do the same for mice, if you're too queasy to cope with traps. But if you are going to lay your own mousetraps, use chocolate rather than cheese - it's much more effective.

And don't worry - having mice or rats is seldom anything to do with the cleanliness of your house. They're opportunists and will follow any scent of food. Good luck getting rid of them!

Seriously, this happens to everyone and it is no reflection on you cleanliness or housekeeping skills. It just HAPPENS.

My last boyfriend and I had a rat in our house that was freaking him out. We paid for housekeepers, were very clean and orderly, etc. The upstairs neighbor was feeding "cats" on the back porch however. Seriously, it's really sweet to fed stray animals, but we saw racoons, opposums, rats, and other unidentiiable animals eating from the "cat food."

I'm a farm girl, so I couldn't care much less. But my "boyfriend" was standing on a chair, screamingmlike a girl. He actually tried to keep the rat in the kitchen by blocking it with like 2 feet of plywood!! Hilarious!

So, what was I getting at? Oh yes...you don't have rats or mice because you are dirty...it's just something that happens to normal, clean people. Don't fret. Just get a trap. I do not recommend the glue traps because the animal's feet get stuck in them, but they are still very feisty. They will chew their limbs off to get away and you do NOT need to know that rats SCREAM when they're trapped.

Use poison or proper traps. Everyone has this problem, so don't be embarrassed.

Rodents don't care if your house is clean or dirty. You need to determine if it a mouse or rat. If it is a rat, this should be considered a serious health risk and get professional advice.
Look at the root of the problem.
How did the critter get in?
Go around your house and inspect everywhere there may be a way it got in. You want to be looking for broken roof tiles, any rot in the facia aor soffit boards.
Remember that these things can get in very small holes.
If you find anywhere, repair it.

It could even be a vole, a mouse like creature, common in the countryside.
It may be a domestic pet, lost or freed, but dont worry, you wont be infested. Feel sympathy for the poor thing.
We dont live in the country, in fact a busy road, but at the back, is a few miles of disued railway track, turned into a walk. It leads into the country, but only what country there is in a midlands town. Yet we get, mice, voles, foxes, hedgehogs, wild cats (ex domestic) and i have even seen Deer! as in rudolf! an adult and two youngsters, along this walk, from the garden.
Try and catch it, and set it free outside, in some country lane, or even in the garden.
As for common, it depends where it was educated.

Hi the way to get rid of it is to buy a rat or mouse trap bate it with snickers or a mars bar (part of) use rubber gloves so the vermin can't smell human set the trap along the skirting board or foot of wall then wait (snickers mars bar or gooey chocolate) if you catch one reset to make sure you catch them all
Good luck if you need any information email me

Set a mouse trap and set it with some cheese or some large piece of potato. I would use this rather than the poison. My friend used poison and she ended up with a dead mouse behind a wall. Very smelly and her husband had to cut through the wall in order to remove it.

You can buy a device that plugs in into a household electric socket -and they disappear. Won't hurt cats and dogs, but I think Hamsters and gerbils may be affected . Comes with full does and don'ts costs about £30 ish. Hope that helps

You can buy a number of different traps, some that use blood-thinning poison or some that are more humane and keeps the animal alive.

Homebase or any hardware shop will sell them
