They're messing with your mind. At night, when you're asleep, one of them crawls out of the bowl (bet you didn't know they could do that, did you?) and brings back a cup of water from the kitchen to fill the bowl with. Then all the goldfish sit back and laugh as they wait to see your reaction the next day.
Next time it happens, be sure to take a close look at all the fish. The one who's hiding behind the little decorative castle at the bottom of the tank and giggling to himself is the culprit.

Instead of using a fish bowl, why not use an aquarium instead? Just something small like a 10 gallon. At least in there he will have more room to swim around and you can get him a buddy and know that it won't be too crowded. As for your question, I have no idea.

They are either splashing or moving around alot, or you have too much water in your bowl. At least 1.5 inches clearance from the very top.
