okay, i have this teacher, and she gave us an assignment in class to write a paper planning out our futures. I am only in the 8th grade, and have no idea what i want to do with my future yet, and i told her as much. She yelled at me and everyone else in the class that didnt have a definite plan that we needed to get our plans in order, so we didnt end up working at McDonalds for the rest of our lives. My opinion is that if i dont have a definite plan for my future, i can explore a lot of different paths, and choose the one i like best. I cant really be expected to know what i want for the rest of my life at 13 years old, can i? Am i wrong? Or is she?

Most intelligent and determined people plan their goals at a young age. I was engaged to a lawyer who knew that he wanted to be an attorney by the age of nine. He was highly successful, knew what he wanted and worked very hard to attain his goals.

If you truly want to be successful in life, assess your talents. Look at various options and try to determine what you think you would like and would be best at. Your teacher sounds as though she just wants the best for you even though she might not be very good at expressing it.

I had several goals as a young child and because I didn't stick with them and plan and work toward them like my attorney fiance did - I didn't achieve the goals and profession I wanted. I have ended up doing something for a living that I really don't like. But if I would have stuck with my original plans, as a child, I would have been much happier.

Think about it now. You can never be too young to have goals in life. Many young people only think about having fun. It's okay to have fun sometimes, but being serious about life will get you so much farther. You will be glad you did.

You can have some ideas - - basically just make something up. Its only an assignment. Its not like she's going to track you down in 20 years and cane you because you didn't follow your plan to the letter. Just do the assignment to the best of your ability and live your life as best you can.

as my parents always told me "Get good grades - - then when you graduate - forget everything its all crap anyway". SO good luck!

there are a lot of teachers that are heavy on planning and long term goals.
i don't think that she is asking you to decide right this moment what you would like to do for the rest of your life.
the assignment, however, should be easy:
go over different occupations that you are interested in, and study each one carefully. looking at them in a realistic way will help you to seed out the ones that you aren't that interested in - like you want to be a veterinarian, but you couldn't bear putting an animal to death, or whatever.
seeing what you don't want to do will help you figure out what you do want to do.
once that's done, you can just pick one, and since you've already studied them, writing about one of them should be easy.
