Welfare is financial assistance paid by the government to certain entities or groups of people who are unable to support themselves alone, or are perceived by the government to be able to function more effectively with financial assistance. Some welfare is general, while some are specific and can only be invoked under certain circumstances, such as a scholarship. Welfare can be given to both individuals, or be given to companies or entities, which take place as corporate welfare.

Welfare in Britain is a farce, Its called benefits, you get it if you're a junkie, an alcoholic, too obese to work, suffering from depression and if you have kids, there's probably other reasons too, but its basically money for people to live on if they don't have a job.
In Britain it's much more than you need, they pay your rent, most of your council tax and give you a living allowance.

People on benefit in Britain struggle to survive because they spend their money on really important things like cigarettes, alcohol, clubbing, going to bingo etc.

I am on benefits, i do not drink or do drugs or any of that other stuff, but receive so much money for doing nothing that in order to make it worth my while going to work instead of raising my children, I would need to earn at least £40,000 a year.

Welfare is a trap, that's what it is.

hi, im ciara and im in an a.p. comparative politics class and we just talked about what this word means here in the u.s. and in the u.k. in the u.s. the majority of people look down on people who are on welfare. wel fare is assitance from the gov't to help people who cant support themselves, poor people, (social security is also welfare), (so are scholarships), handicaps, and the elderly. its basically helping the needy. in the u.k. everyone receives some form of "welfare" scholarships, grants, loans for school, when ur parents give u money for this and that, ur receiving welfare. so when u think of welfare, dont just think of blacks or junkies who just spend their money on alcohol, cause welfare covers a wide range of things. peace
