Jonathan Livingston Seagull, by Richard Bach. 128 pages of pure gold. I cannot imagine a better book for you to write a report on.

For hilarious and enjoyable reading, I recommend David Sedaris's "Me Talk Pretty One Day." For a short classic: Henry James's "Daisy Miller" (113 pages). For another short one (180 pages), there's Philip Roth's "The Ghost Writer."
Me Talk Pretty One Day is a collection of essays by Sedaris about his life mostly when he's an adult.
Daisy Miller is about a girl (Daisy Miller) of new money who travels abroad and dies in Italy. There is a lot of mystery and symbolism, so it's a GREAT book report choice for critiquing.
The Ghost Writer is about a Jewish up and coming writer who gets mentorship from his favorite writer. If you enjoy writing, if you're from a minority group, or if you just like good writing, this book is an excellent choice.
Good luck!

Well I was going to suggest Sanctuary by William Faulkner, I'm reading it now, but the whole book is only 250 oages.
Have you ever read Jean Auel she's a good author , start with
The Clan of The Cave Bear. It's kind of historic fantasy B.C. timeline fntasy.
Douglas Adams is one of my favorite sci-fi authors.
If you can find a copy of "The Hichikers Guide to The Galaxy.
I listened to it on a BBC recorded book.
happy reading

A Yellow Raft in Blue Water. It was a book I read my freshmen year of college. The author has a way of making 3 different stories all come together in the end. Very goo book.

"The Bridge Over San Luis Rey" - I don't know how many pages it is. Also, absolutely anything on the Pulitzer Prize for Literature list - if its on that list, it definitely has something going for it. Another list to check out would be the "Recommended Reading List" for students going to college - you can get a copy of this at your local library, and anything on this list is also very good. Good luck on your report!

-Harry Potter (first one is shortest)
-To Kill a Mockingbird
-Of Mice and Men (I hated it, but it's short)
Those first two are my favorites...the first is a REALLY easy read, but you should be able to draw all kinds of parallels to events in history and whatnot. To Kill a Mockingbird is a classic, but you might find it boring.
