like in the olden days..haha!

try doing it like long division this way:

its hard to write it out here on yahoo answers..but remember doing long division, where u go 9I24 (with the bar on top)?

so on top of the 24, u figure out how many times 9 can go in without going over 24. so that would be 2 times 9, which is 18. so the Big number is 2. how many do u have left over?

24
-18
____
6

so you have 2 and 6/9, which is also 2 and 2/3.

the answer is 2 and 2/3, or 8/3. good luck~

Wow I had never seen division done the way rfamilyme did it (the first answer you got). Pretty interesting since it worked. The only way I know how to explain it is the way I learned it.
24 / 9
how many times can 9 go into 24 without going over 24.
9x1= 9
9x2=18
9x3=27

So we know that 3 won't work. We have to use 2.
24-18= 6
9 cannot go into 6 so that becomes the remainder.

So the answer is 2 with a remainder of 6.

That's not long division though... long division would be if it was like, 241/9... or am I fuzzy about that?

I would say put a two above the 4. Because 9 times 2 is eighteen. Then, subtract eighteen from 24... Remainder 6.

division is repeated subtraction
24-9=15
15-9=6
so the quotient is 2 and the remainder is 6
