Apophis is scheduled to hit in the year 2036. It will have a near miss in 2029. Hopefully, by 2026, we'll have an interdiction plan to change its orbit. 1950DA is an earth killer scheduled to hit 877 years from now, so we don't have to worry about that one.
The ones i'm worried about are the ones on elliptical paths that won't be known until they come from behind the Sun... at which point we'll only have 2 years advance warning..... not enough time for interdiction. We need at least 10 years warning of a potential impact.

Relax. There are thousands of asteroids, comets and meteors rolling around on possible collision courses with Earth. But you are going to die eventually anyway. Better an asteroid than the 31 bus to Camden!

Project Icarus was a class assignment at MIT in the 1968 which challenged the students to devise a way to deflect an asteroid. It was published too.

At any given time there are 100's of meteors heading to earth, so I bloody hope so !!

It's said that many things that are said to be true are not true at all.
the urban myths never die they just keep regurgitating old non=news and try to find new gullable people to believe and spread them...there are always metiors heading trard earth.
there are always a few people activly engaged in fringe science too...put them together and you get Icarus and Bonnie and mad science crazys.
