Three people go to a hotel. The bellboy charges them $30 for the room. Each of them pays $10. After they go to their rooms, the manager tell the bellboy that the room only costs $25. The bellboy takes the change and decided to keep some for himself. He gives $1 back to each of the people, and keeps $2 for himself. So each person paid $9 for the room, which means they paid $27 total. And the bellboy has $2. But 27+2=29. So where is the missing dollar?

This is a fun little question. If you've heard this before, don't answer.

They each pay 9 so that totals 27
25 of the 27 go to pay for the room
2 of the 27 go as tip
25+2 = 27 so there is no problem

verbal puzzle. You state it like that to look at it backwards. If $30 is paid and room is only $25 then you have the $2 the belllboy took which brings you to $28 unaccounted for and $1 to 3 guys which makes $25 which room costs.
$30-$2=$28-$3=$25-$25 (cost of room)=0..no missing money

or $9 from 3 guys which makes $27 which is after bellboy took $2 so would end up as final payment of $25

They paid $30, they got a refund of $1 each, and the belboy kept $2. 30-3=27, 27-2=25. The hotel room cost $25. There is no missing dollar.

The answer lies in the way the facts are reported. The reason you can't find the missing dollar, is because they each paid nine dollars, that's true. But then you add it back to itself. They each paid three dollars for the room right? That's 9 dollars. The three they got back. Well, if you add three to 25, you get 28. Add the two the bellboy kept, that's 30.

Hi. I heard it before so I won't give it away. Just don't let the government find out. Can you imagine a Senator who could not answer this being in charge of, say, a few hundred billion dollars!
