I prefer the self-propelled Toro. Easier to push and Toro has always been a long lasting mower for me. I have bought two or three in my lifetime. Hope this helps!

Since pushing down or lifting up on the handle only effects the rear wheels I would pick the lawn-boy. I would consider buying a used mower from someone who repairs mowers. $50 bucks for a mower may last just as long as a new mower. You don't need new, just a good mower. Don't waste your money.

this isnt a real toro, but it has the big wheels, makes for a nicer level cut and they are easier to push.
what i mean is it probably has a mass made small engine and toro makes the base.
toro lawnmowers usually(riders) resale for like a fortune. even more than a john deere for example.

Toro now owns Lawnboy, so either is good. We used Lawnboys commercially for 24 years and they run forever. I'd go with the front drive though. Easier when you're turning around, just lift the front wheels off the ground, instead of disengaging all the time.
