Lanolin works but believe it or not, your breast milk works too!!

After every feeding, fill a small bowl with one cup of water as hot as you can tolerate it. Mix in a quarter teaspoon of salt and dip your nipple in for a couple of minutes. Let it air dry, then slather on Lansinoh. Despite the temptation, don't stop nursing on that side or it will screw up your milk supply. I spent a few days swearing horribly every time my son latched on, but it got better. Work harder on a proper latch, too, and that should help prevent the problem in the future.

Congrats on the new baby and on breastfeeding. There is some kind of a cream that you can put on your nipples in between feedings but it's been so long (31 years) that I don't remember what its called. You can ask your doctor or call the local chapter of the Le Leche league, I'm sure they know exactly what I'm talking about.

Allow the air to it, and as odd as this sounds, rub your breast milk into it. It has natural antiseptic qualities, and will help you to heal up. However, do not leave a milk soaked breastpad on it- that will only work to make you more sore.

I hope that you feel better soon.
Make sure your baby is latched on correctly for you to avoid this happening again.

If you use Vaseline, which I really don't recommend, make sure you wipe it off before nursing again. The Vit. E oil is a good one. Also drink lots of water and continue nursing, it will pass, it will pass. Nursed 2 for 10 mos. each. It is great you are nursing! Keep it up!

My girlfriends doc told her to massage the leftover breat milk into the nipple after nursing... there are also special salves you can get at the drugstore... It sounds terrible but Bag-Balm is design for this type of cracking/dryness. You can get it at Walmart for like $3.00

squeaze some colostrum out of your nipple and rub it over the cracked parts, that worked for me its the best because it comes straight from you and it works.
i got this information from my midwife when i had my son.
it kind of works like a moisturiser.
the colostrum is the clear stuff that comes out before the milk. the milk works too! i also like this idea better because using cream might not taste so good for the baby after you have applied it on.

i use Lansinoh brand Lanolin ointment. You can apply it many times throughout the day and before showering. Best of all it does not need to be wiped off before feeding your little one.

Let your nipples air out after you feed. Then use some lanolin and put this on your nipples once they have aired out.

You could lanolin or a little bit of olive oil after each feeding. That is what I did, and my nipples did not crack.
