4-year Univserities are looking for AA or AS. An A.A.S is usually for someone not looking to contunue past an associate degree and for this reason are more focused on the subject area with less core content.

"A.S. and A.A. degrees are designed to prepare students for transfer to four-year colleges to pursue a baccalaureate degree. The A.A.S. degree is designed to prepare students for career opportunities and employment. There may be situations when A.A.S. prepared students pursue bachelor's degrees, however, these students should work closely with a faculty advisor."

An Associate Degree is an academic degree awarded by community colleges, junior colleges and some bachelor's degree-granting colleges and universities upon completion of a course of study usually lasting two years. Common abbreviations are AA (Associate of Arts), AS (Associate of Science), AAS (Associate of Applied Science; or in some cases, Associate of Arts and Sciences), AOS (Associate of Occupational Studies), and ABA (Associate of Business Administration).

There's really no differnce because they're both Associate degrees. An A..A. S. degree might require you to take more "liberal arts" classes outside your major, but in terms of your major field, they tend to be pretty much the same.

Same goes for a B.A. vs. a B.S. A B.A. generally has you taking more classes outside your major to broaden your horizons, while the B.S. tends not to. But in the end, they both get you to the same place.
