I had really bad cramps and heavy periods- here's a few things I did. Heat works wonders. Put some rice in a bag and pop it into the microwave like 2 min and put it on your lower abdomen. Midol is good since it works in a few different ways. The pill really helps since it makes you regular and lightens your periods. There are many different types out there- talk to your doctor and she can recommend a good one. Ortho-evra (the patch) has been know to cause strokes. An IUD (intra-uterine device) is a small T shaped plastic divice that they put in your uterus (not surgery- they do it in the doctors office) and it stops you from ovulating. It is good up to 5 years if you get the plastic one- they have a copper one for 10 years, but that seems a little long to me. I have the plastic one and I have no period at all. So you don't drop and egg and it thins the lining of your uterus so you don't need to have a period. Hope this helps.

Moxa patches. They are available from your local herbalist or acupuncturist. You place them over your abdomen area and kidney areas. The heat that the patches produce are from the herbs that are in the patch. The heat penetrates the body and eases the cramps.

However, if you are experiencing mentrual cramping that is painful, then you are most likely suffering from what is known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) as blood stagnation in the uterus. This is a treatable condition that can be quickly remedied through the combined treatment of herbs and acupuncture.

Periods, according to TCM should never be painful. Mine used to be very painful until I started TCM.

Foods to avoid while on your period are cold foods and foods that stress your kidneys or liver. Avoid prescriptions if you can, even if they seem to alleviate the symptoms, they actually add to the overall problem by promoting more stagnation.

This is so simple and it really works.

When you have particularly bad cramps, use your index finger and press on the spot directly between your eyebrows, above the bridge of your nose. It shouldn't be so hard that it's bending your finger, but enough light pressure to be felt. Maintain that for the count of 10 seconds and take deep breaths while doing it.

Another spot (though more conspicuous) is where the big and second toe meet.

If you know your cycle and you know when you are going to get it,
take Aleve everyday as recommended on the bottle. A hot water bottle helps. Scratch your lower abdomen with your nails in a circular motion. Exercise always helps too. Stay away from caffeine.

Good luck I know exactly what you are going through. Also when you get home soak in a hot tub. I think getting the circulation going really helps.

I start popping 600 ml ibuprofen as soon as 3 days before my period. Then when cramps get really bad, I lay in a hot water bathtub for as long as I can. Laying on my stomach helps too.
