To show any real understanding of what you have been through, they might have to concede that they could have done the same thing if they had been in your place. And that might be a blow to an already insecure self-image. So you are on the right track in thinking it has something to do with their insecurity.

People are ***holes in all shapes and sizes. Even people who say they have never done that including you, have. So someone was a jerk, tell um to piss off and get over it. They should not be allowed this much control in your life. In highschool I was still a virgin when I had apparently slept with half the football team so I know how that whole slut, whore thing feels. Nobody knows why people are so cruel we just know it sucks big time so do your best to forget it. Good question can't wait to see what other people say.

Everyone has their own set of morals and only really understands what they themselves have been through. Add that to the fact that women live with the double standard that if they have a lot of partners they are automatically considered sluts and men can sleep around with out being judged. The funny thing is that women hold themselves to that standard too.
Also, we live in a selfish society. Everything revolves around ourselves and what we feel, and no one gives a crap about anyone else unless it affects them. It's kinda sad, but luckily not everyone is this way.

The sad part is woman, are so jealous of each other, I always say, what a strong bunch we would be if we would just learn to stick together!! Sometimes it is insecurity, why woman, try and bring each other down, and for them to say, what they would do, or how they would feel in their situation. They think they know, but one never knows how we would act, under certain situations, until the time comes, so don't even listen to all of that hoopla. What we need to do is learn, to love each other more!! Then we would be able to move mountains!!

um... not all women are like that. But it does sound like you've run into one that is. I think you're right about the insecuritys. Without knowing the details though... you know, some people are just set in their ways, and if someone does something in a manner that's different, they think it's wrong. And unfortunatly some people (mostly uninformed people) feel they have the right to voice their feelings no matter how they make someone else feel. Whoever the... bit- cough-ahem... you know... is who said something to you, just show her that you can be the bigger person. Maybe you can show her the error of her ways in how she treated you.

Maybe it's because the things that other women do have absolutely no sense or logic to it. A woman I work with knows her children's step father abuses her kids and yet she thinks she can "change him." So in the meantime her kids get abused and she refuses to accept the fact that he's a real asshole and she cannot change anyone. When I say "I would never allow that to happen to my children" I mean every word of it!! I'd kill that bastard first.

You answered your own question - some people put others down to make themselves feel better. However, it's not only women who do so, men do it too, and not all women do it, and neither do all men.
