Black and Asian Muslim racists in Birmingham multicultural failure?

Surely if their was any proof that a multicultural soceity is a mess it was when a black radio station accused the muslim asians of gang raping a 14 year old jamaican girl in birmingham. Then there were riots in the streets for 3 days and we had an innocent black man stabbed to death for no reason but to even up a score.The police said that no rape had been reported so we have two proud communitys that live side by side and despise each other with a vengance and not a kkk member to be found.This unfortunately is the great multicultural experiment gone wrong with apparently well established ethnic communities, yet when people mention immigration with all these asylum seekers they get branded a racist. If this is what it is like in 2005/06 its only going to get worse in future years. Guardian readers are confronted with their ethnic utopia in a dire mess and all they can do is label people who complain about unhindered immigration from the third world as racists.

From the start let me say that I am NOT any kind of racist... I welcome all races and creeds, and respect that they wish to live in a way that they prefer.

However we have to accept in this country that a racist does not come with the pre-requisite of being white... this kind of event described above is an example of how non-whites can be just as racist as the worst examples of white.

By promoting a "positive racialism" policy, the racial commisions have damaged their own causes, and white people who would not normally despair of the immigration situation are put out over the perceived favouritism given to newcomers over and above the interests of the indigenous population.

Every time I'm given a form to fill in, I am ask to indicate whether I am white, coloured, black or whatever. It shouldn't make any difference, and I suspect that by answering white I am then penalised in some way.

We all need to live together on a level field, and to give respect... its time that any past trangressions of white dominance of over 40 years ago and recent race riots be put behind us and just get on with each other.

Hundreds of years ago, as people and societies developed, Northern White Europeans bumped up against Southern White Europeans and there were naturally squabbles and misunderstandings. The world's big society is still developing today. With modern growth, more and more diverse people will bump up against each other. Get used to it. Grow up and be one of those who work hard at trying to make this new development successful, instead of being a snot nosed whiner hanging on to a silly past where people never had to deal with different cultures. It will never come back. Accept it, or fall behind.

No, multicultural societies do not have to be a failure,i think religion is the downside to a lot of the mess and unfortunately the racists within each different culture are spoiling it for the rest of us.

Yeah, the Danes who came over in the 9th century did not integrate and we still have problems with them. The 11th Century Normans also did not integrate properly, The Italian and Moorish traders and merchants during Medieval times have shown how multiculteralism has failed, the Dutch in East Anglia are still living in their ghettos and the Huguenots who came over in the 17th century only came over to claim the dole have shown how multiculturalism has never been successful.

You know when my car starts making a noise I always junk it and start again and never think of trying to repair it. I never think of how much it has served me getting me from one place to another or the fact that it is reliable I just think of the rattle in the engine and complain about it and am not happy unless I see it crushed. I also never but the same brand again.

No, not all mixed race/culture groupings necessarily end in conflict and failure.

It depends very much on the mixture and whether the groups are willing to accept a dominant cultural tendency -in this case British traditions and cultural norms (as Muslims clearly are not)- and on the cultural and educational level of the groups (which among Blacks is often extremely low).

But you are right to be suspicious of all the "multi-culltural" claptrap; it is all so much Panglossian rubbish.
